Glazing for Noise Insulation In the main Noise enters a building through
its' weakest point - the windows & doors - just think of the difference between
having your windows shut & open - and again between having the curtains drawn
or left open! Our standard Secondary Glazing Range provides good Noise
Insulation - our Special Acoustic Range provides the most effective Noise
Insulation Available today. Secondary Glazing, for Noise Insulation
in particular, is the fastest growing sector of our business. Two of
our most senior personnel have each spent more than 30 years working in this Sector
on Noise Insulation for Residential, Commercial & Public Sector properties - the
last 15 years having been spent working with us designing, specifying, developing
& improving our Acoustic Range. Good Noise Insulation is dependent upon
a variety of factors and different situations require different solutions.
The cavity between the glass, glass type & thickness, framing materials,
sealing of moving panes, sealing of the outer frame to the window reveal, avoidance
of vibration from glass resonance and the type & frequency of the noise source/s
all need to be taken into account to correctly specify each individual installation.
Replacement Windows We sell Replacement Windows, they are
much more expensive than Secondary Glazing - we do not sell them for Noise Insulation
- they are not effective, even with Acoustic Glass. Secondary Glazing
is Ugly & Obtrusive Not True. Our Systems have been Designed to be
effective, stylish & discreet - they are nothing like the sort of thing
that you may have seen elsewhere or in years past. Additionally, we
put as much emphasis on achieving an Unobtrusive Installation as we do on achieving
Optimum Noise Insulation - if the two are in conflict then we will talk to you
about it honestly in order to Agree the Right Balance. Noise The Key Numbers & Information are
as follows: - Measured in Decibels - dB
- Our ears are not
equally sensitive to all types of noise so results are Averaged using an
electronic filter to approximate the response of the human ear - dB(A)
-
Different frequencies & volumes of noise react in different ways, again this has
to be averaged out & in this case it is expressed as the Weighted Reduction
- dB Rw
- Another Index is used for measuring a windows' effectiveness
in reducing Road Traffic Noise from outside in typical City & Town Centres
- Reduction of road traffic noise - dB Rt
- The 3 dB Rule
- The measurement of noise is not a "Straight Line" Graph - every 3 dB
increase or decrease in Noise actually equals a doubling or halving of the Noise
Intensity
- For example:
4 babys' crying at the same time -
will typically give a noise measurement of about 116dB 2 babys'
crying at the same time - will typically give a noise measurement of about 113dB
1 baby crying on its' own -
will typically give a noise measurement of about 110dB In this example:
The Noise has been halved, then halved again - the Decibel
Reduction has been 3dB + 3dB = 6dB in Total Noise
Insulation Depending upon the Individual Requirements, the Existing Glazing
& the Agreed Specification, we are able to achieve: Minimum - 35 dB Rw General
Weighted Reduction
- 29 dB Rt Reduction
of Road Traffic Noise
Maximum - 48
dB Rw General Weighted Reduction
-
42 dB Rt Reduction of Road
Traffic Noise
Each 3 dB reduction is actually
a halving of the Noise! Suitability
- Road Traffic Noise - Lorries, Buses, Taxis, Motorcycles, Emergency Service
Sirens & Cars
- Railway - Station & Train Noise
- Aircraft & Airport
Noise - If appropriate Roof Insulation should also be checked
- Street
Noise - Shouting, Talking Loudly, Dogs Barking, Burglar & Car Alarms, Noisy Neighbours,
Pub Noise
- Double Glazed Windows - We frequently install our Acoustic
Secondary Glazing to Double Glazed Windows
Benefits
& Other Considerations - Undisturbed Sleep
- Quiet Time at
Home Undisturbed by Outside Noise
- Excellent Thermal Insulation as an
Added Bonus
- Improved Energy Rating
- Reduced Carbon Footprint
-
Reduced Heating Bills
- No more Draughts
- Increased Security
-
Retains the Character of Traditional & Period Windows
- Not generally subject
to Listed Building or Conservation Area Restrictions
- Virtually Maintenance
Free - an occasional wipe with a damp cloth & a drop of oil to the moving parts
-
The Environment - no old windows adding to the rubbish mountain & lower environmental
production costs
